Conference - Day Two, Finale
We all met back at the conference area after the students came back from visiting different clubs at the school. From there, the students walked over to the restaurant while the host families of the teachers drove us over.
My host family has just been so wonderful and accommodating. I've posted a picture of Mr. Liang and Miya as well as Mrs. Liang and Miya.
We were given copies of the national newspapers which reported on the conference. There are some nice pictures and I have posted them. The six foreign teams are enjoying "star" status. We have never had to pose for so many pictures at the same time in our entire lives. Every student wants to be photographed with EVERY visitor. We're being asked for autographs and emails - you can see the kids are just amazed at the attention.
It was a very raucous evening. The food was mostly Japanese with a touch of what we would consider Chinese food.
I sat with my host family, a few other Taiwanese teachers, and the teachers from Russia, Ireland, Japan, and Australia.
We had great time. The PTO officials went from table to table toasting each of us. I toasted in return, but got the feeling I didn't do something right. Turns out, I was expected to chug my glass of wine (which had just been filled) in response to their toasts. I'm actually glad I didn't understand because it's not something I would have enjoy doing. In my opinion, the purpose of wine is to enjoy the flavors and tastes and to compliment a meal - not to chug it like beer.
Anyway, the students and I really enjoyed the evening and are looking forward to touring Changhua in the morning.
